Welcome

Join us for three days of inspiration, fun, and Dunedin delights, at the RANZCP New Zealand Conference 2025, 8-10 September. This year we'll be embracing Hei Whakaora Hinengaro, the concept of healing the mind. The opening day will feature a line-up sure to challenge and invigorate. Professor Robert Waldinger of the Harvard Study of Adult Development will take us on an exploration of happiness, Dr Rory Hutchinson will zoom in on the inner child, and Dr James Le Bas will share learnings from a psychiatrist's journey with lived experience. Day two will feature contemporary mental health research from around Australasia, alongside sessions with the philosopher and psychotherapist Professor Traill Dowie and with Dr Kate Fulford, who is immersed in the challenges of providing services within vulnerable populations. The final day will involve further opportunities to hear about contemporary research, alongside a battle of the ages in the not-to-be-missed debate.

Outside of the academic sessions, there'll be opportunities to catch up with colleagues and sample stunning Dunedin. Situated in the lower South Island’s southeast coast, Dunedin is known for its Scottish and Māori heritage, Victorian and Edwardian architecture, and an energetic university student culture. The city is a unique mix of historic sandstone buildings, natural wonders, rare wildlife and is nestled amongst the dramatic and scenic landscape of the adjoining Otago Peninsula and Harbour. The conference dinner will take place at Tūhura Otago Museum, where you'll have the chance to mix and mingle amongst exhibits and tropical butterflies.

The RANZCP New Zealand Conference 2025 will traverse a variety of topics, ranging from novel treatments, advances in psychotherapy, mental health statute revisions, and more. You’ll leave feeling fresh, inspired and up to date on what a psychiatrist needs to know!
